چکیده

Visibly pushdown automata (VPAs), introduced by Alur and Madhusudan in 2004, are a useful formalism in various contexts, such as expressing and checking properties on control flows of programs, or on XML documents. In this context, we propose efficient antichain-based algorithms to check universality and inclusion of VPAs. Whereas the computation complexity is known to be ExpTime-complete for both problems, we show how antichains can avoid explicit determinization and save computations. The approach is extended to hedge automata. We implement the proposed algorithms in a prototype tool and conduct experiments on randomly generated VPAs. We show that, on numerous instances, our algorithms outperform other VPA tools.

Decision Problems for the Verification of Real-Time Software

We study two questions in the theory of timed automata concerning timed language inclusion of real-time programs modeled as timed pushdown automata in real-time specifications with just one clock. We show that if the specification B is modeled as a timed automaton with one clock, then the language inclusion problem L(A) ⊆ L(B) for a timed pushdown automaton A is decidable. On the other hand, we...

Visibly pushdown automata on trees: universality and u-universality

An automaton is universal if it accepts every possible input. We study the notion of u-universality, which asserts that the automaton accepts every input starting with u. Universality and u-universality are both EXPTIME-hard for non-deterministic tree automata. We propose efficient antichain-based techniques to address these problems for visibly pushdown automata operating on trees. One of our ...

Right-Universality of Visibly Pushdown Automata

Visibly pushdown automata (VPAs) express properties on structures with a nesting relation such as program traces with nested method calls. In the context of runtime verification, we are interested in the following problem: given u, the beginning of a program trace, and A, a VPA expressing a property to be checked on this trace, can we ensure that any extension uv of u will be accepted by A? We ...

Event-Clock Nested Automata

In this paper we introduce and study Event-Clock Nested Automata (ECNA), a formalism that combines Event Clock Automata (ECA) and Visibly Pushdown Automata (VPA). ECNA allow to express real-time properties over non-regular patterns of recursive programs. We prove that ECNA retain the closure and decidability properties of ECA and VPA being closed under Boolean operations and having a decidable ...

A Tighter Bound for the Determinization of Visibly Pushdown Automata

Visibly pushdown automata (VPA), introduced by Alur and Madhusuan in 2004, is a subclass of pushdown automata whose stack behavior is completely determined by the input symbol according to a fixed partition of the input alphabet. Since its introduce, VPAs have been shown to be useful in various context, e.g., as specification formalism for verification and as automaton model for processing XML ...
